Getting started

Requirements

Goodside runs on any iPhone with iOS 17.6 or later. It uses the standard camera and motion sensors, so no particular model is required. The app is portrait only, by design.

Permissions it asks for

Your first photo

  1. Open the camera and tap a shot type: Full body, Mid body or Seated.
  2. Two marks appear on the grid. The top one is where your head goes. The bottom one is where the frame ends.
  3. Hand the phone over. Whoever is holding it lines you up to the marks and taps the shutter.

Framings, profiles and the library

Building a Style Profile from your own photo

On Home, tap "New" under Your styles, or the "+ New" tile in the camera sheet. Pick one photo from your camera roll. Goodside reads it on your device and drops two anchors where it thinks they belong: one at the top of the head, one where the body or the frame ends. Drag either one, in any direction, until it matches what you actually want, confirm the shot type chip, then tap Done. Name it on the next screen, or leave it and keep the default.

Changing a profile later

Open the profile from Home or from the camera sheet. From there you can rename it, tap "Edit framing" to move the anchors again, or "Replace photo" to swap the reference while keeping the profile. A profile always has exactly one reference photo, so there is no way to remove the photo without deleting the profile itself.

The framing library

127 framings, sorted by place (Beach, Streets, Nature, Hotels, Dining) and by shot type (Full body, Mid body, Seated). Tap one to select it, tap the heart to save it to your own row, or open it full size to see how it is framed before committing. "Open camera" starts coaching with that framing straight away.

Moving the guides by hand

With a shot type active, tap the pencil next to the mode label in the top bar. Drag either mark. It snaps to the thirds, the centre, the original position and to alignment with the other mark, with a small haptic tap when it catches. The reset button returns the original position, and the tick confirms.

Why nothing lights up when the framing is right

That is deliberate. Goodside shows the target and lets the person aim at it, rather than flashing at them while they are concentrating. The marks stay one calm colour throughout. The level line is the one exception: it turns yellow within about a degree of level, matching the native iPhone camera.

Notifications

Tip of the Day arrives three mornings a week, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and never more often than that. The tips are practical photography advice, 101 of them on a yearly rotation. Turn them off any time under Profile, then Settings, then the Tip of the Day switch.

If you start a free trial and allow notifications, Goodside also schedules one reminder before the trial ends, so the conversion is never a surprise. Both are local notifications, scheduled on your phone. Nothing is sent to a server to deliver them.

Subscriptions, trials and cancelling

Goodside has a 7-day free trial on both subscription plans. Coaching features require an active trial, subscription or the lifetime unlock. The camera itself keeps working either way.

Final pricing shows in your local currency on the App Store. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. A trial converts to a paid subscription unless you cancel before it ends.

How to cancel

  1. Open the iOS Settings app and tap your name at the top.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap Goodside, then Cancel Subscription.

You can also reach the same screen from inside the app, under Profile, then Settings, then "Manage subscription". Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends, or the next one renews. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.

What happens when it lapses

Nothing is deleted. Your Style Profiles, saved framings and photos stay exactly where they are. Coaching locks, and the profiles show with a small lock rather than disappearing. Subscribe again and everything unlocks as it was.

Refunds

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something in the app went wrong, email us as well and we will help.

Restoring a purchase

On a new phone, or after reinstalling, sign in with the same Apple Account you bought with, then open Profile, then Settings, then "Restore purchases". Your entitlement returns immediately. If it does not, check that you are signed in with the purchasing account, then email us with the date of purchase.

Note that Style Profiles live on the device that created them, so they do not travel to a new phone with the purchase. Your subscription does.

Your data, and deleting it

Almost everything Goodside holds lives only on your iPhone: your Style Profiles, their reference photos, your saved framings and your settings. There is no account and no server copy, so there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf.

The only data that ever leaves your phone is anonymous purchase status, handled by Apple and RevenueCat so your subscription works. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Troubleshooting

The marks are not showing

Coaching needs an active shot type or profile, and an active trial, subscription or lifetime unlock. Tap a shot type in the camera sheet. If a paywall appears instead, coaching is locked rather than broken.

The camera is black

Check camera permission in the iOS Settings app, under Goodside. If it is on, close the app fully and reopen it. Another app holding the camera can block the session.

My recent shots are empty

That grid reads your photo library. Grant Photos access when the app asks, or in the iOS Settings app under Goodside. Photos taken before you granted access still appear once it is on.

The level line is not appearing

By design, it only shows when the phone is held upright and within about five degrees of level, so it reads as a confirmation rather than a constant meter. It can also be switched off under Settings, in the level indicator row.

The photo looks different from the preview

It should not. The preview is a true 4:3 box showing the whole sensor frame, and the saved photo is that same frame uncropped. The guides are drawn on screen only and are never part of the picture. If you are seeing a real difference, please send us an example.
